Water Optimization & Reuse

GWU is revamping its water goals to enable improvements in water resiliency. The project team includes cross-functional experts in campus operations, finance, sustainability and advisers from Coho. The team aims to ensure water initiatives account for distributed water infrastructure, space constraints at an urban campus, and the impact of water on GHG emissions. The team conducted a baseline assessment to develop a water balance, revealing that 39% of GW's potable water consumption is directed toward non-potable uses: irrigation, boilers, and chillers. A strategy is underway to capture and reuse stormwater, reducing municipal water while producing cost savings and enhancing resiliency.
