Engie/University of Iowa District Cooling Renewal Project Case Study

This presentation discusses replacing aging equipment with a 5,000-ton dual compressor chiller at the University of Iowa's North Chiller Plant. The project increased usable capacity, improved reliability, recovered firm capacity, and maintained P3 contracted Key-Performance Indicators (KPls) while the plant remained in operation. Eliminating work from ladders and minimizing chain falls improved operational safety. In-plant recirculation pumping schemes were implemented to prevent piping system biological growth or rust formation when the facility was not operating.
