District-Scale Geoexchange Fields

The drive towards electrification as a climate mitigation tool is spurring the demand for geoexchange / geothermal heat pump systems at very large scales in district energy / utility applications. The assessment, testing, design, construction, and commissioning of these infrastructure require thoughtful attention to multi-discipline engineering requirements, as well as flexibility and adaptation to what are often numerous and evolving site constraints. The presentation will review several unique case studies of multi-MW scale GHX installations, in a variety of settings and installation methodologies.
