Connecting the Dots – How the University of Denver is Building a New District System by Networking Local CHW Plants

Facing new campus growth on the south edge of campus as well as aging building chillers in that region, the University of Denver needed to develop a strategy to address the growth and life-cycle replacements while minimizing costly and impactful distribution work across their iconic campus. Leveraging the previous load study, DU and BMcD determined that spare chilled water capacity in their large engineering building could be leveraged to supply two adjacent buildings and become the genesis for a district chilled water system that will allow for greater efficiency and minimized maintenance.
