A Brief World Tour of Unique Thermal Energy Storage Installations

A selection of eight examples of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) are reviewed, from eight countries on five continents. They demonstrate unique applications or attributes of TES that have been successfully implemented to meet a variety of needs in different situations and climates. The examples address District Cooling, process cooling, Turbine Inlet Cooling, dual use as fire protection, dual use as skyline advertising, and other diverse applications, often saving capital cost as well as operating costs. They span individual TES capacities from 365 ton-hours to 192,800 ton-hours.
