The local and regional benefits of district energy systems were on sharp display at IDEA2024, our annual industry conference and trade show, held in Orlando, June 17-20, 2014.
This year's conference, with the theme "District Energy for Sustainable Cities," included three days of educational content with pre-conference workshops, a four track technical program and multiple tours of operating district energy systems. The conference drew over 700 participants from across the U.S. and Canada and from Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, the U.A.E and the U.K. More than one-third of those in attendance were IDEA conference first-timers.
The main topic this year? Energy industry transition. "Is it a challenge for district energy, or an opportunity?" Rob Thornton, IDEA president and CEO, asked North American panelists on one of two marquee plenaries. "It’s an enormous opportunity," replied Kevin Haggerty, president of Vicinity Energy. "And it’s a challenge – all change is challenge – but district energy shines in times of change."
